• Montevideo is a safe port and there are no particular risks for vessels calling here.
  • Montevideo is not officially registered as a NAABSA PORT, but in accordance with bottom conditions at the zone (soft mud), NAABSA operations are safe if the vessels lie aground. We have recently handled seeral cases where the vessel touched bottom during loading operations without any consequence.
  • The tide range in Rio de la plata is very small but greatly influenced by wind which can widely increase the range. Wind from the South increases the tide range, meantime wind from the North causes extreme low water tides. The effect of the wind in water leel is almost immediate, both when the wind rises and when it changes direction.
  • It should be also taken into account that the water density (specific gravity) inside the port can vary from 1,000 to 1,018 approximately, which can affect the vessel’s draught at full load.
  • As per the official information, (https://issuu.com/uruguaportuario/docs/folleto_mvd_v7.2_compr) the access channel is dredged at 13 meters and the berthings at 12, but accordig to our experiece the depths by the piers may be shallower.
