Nueva Palmira
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF PORT FACILITIES
Besides being located at Km 0 of the Paraná-Paraguay Waterway, Nueva Palmira has a free zone and river accessibility from the River Plate through the Martín García Channel, which makes it a gateway to the heart of the South American continent.
Moreover, it has the advantage of territorially coexisting with the Atlantic-Pacific corridors that link ports of the South American coasts.
It comprises the port administered by the National Ports Administration (ANP), the CORPORACION NAVIOS S.A. terminal and adjacent private port downstream, and the FRIGOFRUT facilities to the north, both operating under the same system as the NUEVA PALMIRA FREE ZONE.
The port area has silos for agricultural bulk storage with a total capacity of around 72,000 tonnes, managed by the TERMINALES GRANELERAS URUGUAYAS S.A. (TGU) consortium. Its equipment includes a grain loader and a conveyor belt connecting the berths to the north with the silos.

Fray Bentos
Fray Bentos
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF PORT FACILITIES
The Port of Fray Bentos is located in the city of the same name, on the left bank of the Uruguay River, 317 km away from Montevideo.
The distance to Nueva Palmira is 92 km (Km 0 of the Paraguay-Paraná Waterway) and to Montevideo 385 km via the Martin Garcia Channel or 560 km via the Mitre Channel.
Its excellent geographical location is further enhanced by its road accessibility. Road access is possible via Route 2, to the south of the country, which in turn connects to Route 24. The latter connects to Route 20 and 25, which are the backbone of the wood industry transport.
Two railway branches, which cross the forestry areas, reach the end of both docks.
The port is near the Fray Bentos-Puerto Unzué international bridge, which is the shortest connection between Montevideo and Buenos Aires and facilitates the cargo interconnections between Uruguay and the agricultural and industrial area of the Argentine coast, Chile to the west and Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil to the east.
Port area
The Port of Fray Bentos has an efficient system of grain conveyor belts with a loading capacity of 500 t/h and an unloading capacity of 120 t/h.
It has two concrete shipping docks: the transatlantic or overseas dock, which is 200 meters long and 34 meters wide, and the cabotage or linking dock, which is 225 meters long and 22 meters wide.
The depth of the port is approximately 9 meters alongside the overseas dock and 7 meters alongside the river dock.
The main products handled in the port are citrus fruits, round timber and grains (barley and corn). The transatlantic dock is used for citrus fruits and timber and the cabotage or linking dock for grains and citrus fruits.

Montevideo
(Source: http://www.anp.com.uy/inicio/institucional/infraestructura/montevideo/infraestructura_fisica/) GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE PORT FACILITIES THE PORT OF MONTEVIDEO is located on the shore of the River Plate at latitude 34º55’S and longitude 56º14’W. Except for the hydrocarbon terminal, which is located to the north of the bay, the current port facilities are located in the eastern coast of the Bay of Montevideo. However, there are projects for developing new facilities in the northern and western sides. The 1,300-meter Western Breakwater and the 900-meter Eastern Breakwater (Sarandí) protect the port from the SW (pampero) winds and the S and SE winds, respectively. This protection is reinforced by an offshore breakwater located right in front of the operating quays. The water area of the port is divided into three basins (River Basin, Basin I and Basin II). The land area, which is mainly for operations, covers approximately 110 hectares, and there are ongoing projects to continue its expansion. The overall quay length will exceed 4,500 meters in the short term. In several quays and paved areas, there are connections to the railway network. Exception made by the conceded terminal, the piers are public and operated by privates. For a complete list of Port Operator, we suggest to click on the following link: http://www.anp.com.uy/inicio/servicios/montevideo/montevideo_operadores_portuarios MULTIPURPOSE DOCK C: The dock structure is suitable for the operation of specialized equipment to handle the traffic of containerships, bulk carriers and multipurpose vessels. TERMINALS CUENCA DEL PLATA TERMINAL (TCP): (http://www.terminaltcp.com.uy/) Facility dedicated to container operations. MONTECON (http://www.montecon.com.uy/) Operator of public areas for containers, general cargo and project cargo. MONTEVIDEO GRAIN TERMINAL (TGM): (Source: http://www.tgm.com.uy/nosotros.html) It is the grain terminal in Montevideo, specialized in storage and shipping of bulk grains. TERMINAL LA TEJA (OIL REFINERY): (Source: http://www.ancap.com.uy/) It is located inside of the La Teja complex, in the north area of the Montevideo bay; it is connected to the access channel through a 2.500 mts channel. It performs reception and dispatch of oil derivatives.
